Earlier this week, materials science company PANGAIA launched a zero waste sneaker made from grape leather ( which I did not even know was a thing) repurposed from some of the 6.5 billion litres waste of the Italian wine industry produces.
The new PANGAIA leather sneaker is produced by local family owned factory in Italy. It comes in black or white and sports an upper, inner and insole composed of grape leather and sits atop a 100% recycled rubber midsole and outsole derived from industrial waste.
Other environmentally-friendly features include a bio based water glue, natural cotton laces with 100% recycled plastic aglets.
Unfortunately, pre-orders for this shoe have closed, but you can check out the rest of PANGAIA’S product at their website.
